HISTORY

As the youngest of five children, Oscar found himself being rather babied, when he managed to get any attention at all from his parents. More often than not however, he found himself left to his own devices. Like all Kilians, he began to study magic at an early age but, though he tried his hardest, was never able to become anything more than average, especially unable to compete with his older brother David and older sister Jayne.

However, from Jayne he did receive the attention he craved, feeling lost as he did in the bustle of his family life. She would help him with his lessons when no one else had the time, something he appreciated greatly. He was always greatly disappointed by the fact that he was never able to become anywhere close to her level in magic, even while he did well in other academic areas.

Oscar rather attached himself to Jayne, often to a point that only frustrated her. When she ran away, he was completely devastated. Home soon seemed unbearable to him, to the point where he decided that he would also run away, looking for his sister. Through determination and a fair amount of sheer dumb luck, he managed to track her down in Hanalan. However, Oscar did not approached his sister at first, afraid of the anger he knows she is going to have once she finds out what he has done.

Finally they did meet up one day by chance in the marketplace near where Jayne was staying. While Jayne was upset with her brother for being so reckless, she let him stay (especially since Oscar refused to go home unless she came with him). The pair stayed with Jayne's old teacher, Lady Audrina, and her husband for some time.

However, the quiet of this retreat was destroyed when Karyl showed up unexpectedly. Realizing that her presence was putting Audrina in danger, Jayne decided that it was time to leave and made the important decision that she and Oscar should return home. Oscar was happy about this decision, but also fearful, as he thought that Jayne go away again, leaving him alone.

On the return trip, Oscar got the shock of his life when Jayne suddenly got upset at him over his attitude towards others on the journal. He was especially upset by her admission that she had taken similar actions and that they had been a mistake. Upset to find his ideal sister believed herself to be less than perfect, Oscar struggled to understand what she meant and feared finding out that maybe she had been right.

The pair eventually reached home and while there Oscar has seen little of Jayne. This has only added to his confusion and hurt, as he still wants to be with her more than anything in the world.

PERSONALITY

Oscar is fairly intelligent, but he doesn’t really know much of the world, as he is lacking in actual experience, filled only with the book knowledge that he has learned. He is also, of course, at the time in life filled with new experiences, realities, and desires, and is often rather confused by what is going on.

Oscar does not have great confidence in himself, fuelled by his failure to be a great success when it comes to magic. This lack of confidence is very telling when he gets into fights, something that, given his age, has become a rather frequent occurrence and which he almost always loses due to lose of control and logic. He is especially prone to get into fights when negative comments about Jayne are made. While these arguments usually don’t amount to anything other than shouting matches, Oscar does feel good about defending his sister, whether she wants him to or not.

His view of Jayne however is rather inflated, however. He practically worships her to the point where he believes she can do no wrong. He tries to emulate her, taking on her belief that their family is cold and uncaring while also trying to pretend it doesn’t matter to him, but in this he usually fails. His greatest wish is that to be just like Jayne and to have her be proud of him.

APPEARANCE

Oscar is short for his age and has a thin, wiry frame. He has medium-length bluish-black hair and big blue eyes. He usually wears loose-fitting robes because he thinks they make him look bigger, though they really have the opposite effect.
